Smart audiences

Smart audiences are dynamic contact lists that update automatically based on rules you define. No more manual lists to maintain!

How it works#

Unlike regular lists (where you add contacts manually), a Smart audience is defined by rules. Contacts matching the rules are automatically included.

For example: "All active contacts, with the 'buyer' tag, subscribed for more than 30 days" — this audience updates in real time.

Create a Smart audience#

1. Go to the Contacts section
2. Click Smart audiences
3. Name your audience
4. Add your filtering rules

Available rules#

By tag#

Filter contacts by their tags:

• Contacts with a specific tag (e.g., "buyer")
• Contacts without a tag (e.g., exclude "unsubscribed")

By source#

Filter by the contact's origin:

• Form, CSV import, purchase, manual, etc.

By status#

• Active contacts only
• Unsubscribed contacts
• etc.

By activity#

• Contacts who opened an email in the last X days
• Contacts who clicked recently

By date#

• Subscribed before or after a given date
• Subscribed for more than X days

Combining rules#

Rules can be combined with AND or OR to create precise audiences:

• AND: the contact must meet all conditions
• OR: the contact must meet at least one condition

Advanced audience example#

"Active contacts AND tag 'newsletter' AND subscribed for > 30 days AND opened an email in the last 7 days"

→ This audience targets your most engaged readers.

Using your Smart audiences#

When you send a newsletter, you can target a Smart audience instead of your entire list. This improves:

• Your open rates (you send to interested people)
• Your deliverability (fewer bounces and complaints)
• Your relevance (the right message to the right people)
